World Thrift Day is observed on 31st October every year across the globe. In 1924 the First International Thrift Congress was held in Milan, Italy and a resolution was unanimously passed that proclaimed October 31st as World Thrift day. The observance of this day is entirely “devoted to the promotion of savings all over the world”.
The day is an attempt to acknowledge the significance of retail banks, women’ associations and support the practice of saving in schools, sports bodies, cultural organizations, women’s associations, etc.
The day marks the imperativeness of constantly saving in order to have a safe and secure future.
The day is celebrated in a variety of forms such as brochures; leaflets and poster competition are organized to encourage the significance of thrift or saving.
