US President Barack Obama on Wednesday nominated the first ever muslim, a Pakistani-American, on the federal judiciary bench for the American District Court of Columbia. Obama said “I am happy to nominate Mr Qureshi as to serve on the American District court bench. I am confident that he will serve the people of America with integrity and will be committed to justice.”

Abid Riaz Qureshi is serving as a partner in the Washington office of Latham & Watkins LLP, where he is the specialist in cases which involve the False Claims Act, fraud in health care, and security violation.
He also serves as the Global Chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee, a position that he has held since 2012. The Qureshi was born in Pakistan; however he graduated from the Cornell University in 1993 and grabbed his law degree in 1997 from the Harvard Law School. President Obama’s nomination of Qureshi has been praised by the American Muslim enclave community.
