Now think again before eyeing any girl! You may not only land up in jail but one wrong move and you are shot!
Delhi Police has come up with a new self-defence method for security of women. After the Pepper-Spray method, the new equipment is a light- weight revolver, easy to carry, and safer to use.
The revolver is black, lightweight and slim. It weighs 0.5 kg and can be easily carried in a purse or a bag. The gun uses .32 calibre bullets with an effective fire range of 50 feet (15 m). Designed by the Indian Ordnance Factory based in Kanpur, the revolver is made up of Titanium alloy priced at ₹ 1,22,360 (a little above one lakh). The revolver was officially launched at a function held at Field Gun Factory, Kanpur. It is India’s first gun made for women and derives its name from ‘Nirbhaya’, the 16th December gang rape case.
Besides protecting women from attackers, it also helps in boosting the confidence in women. However, carrying and using revolver has its own pros and cons. On this, A Station House officer of a Delhi police Station on the basis of anonymity says, “A woman will use her gun only if a person attacks her, as that will be her ‘reaction’ to it. So, there’s no point of misusing the availed advantage given only to women”.
According to the SHO, this step will also help in curbing crimes to a large extent. As women can now move around confidently and this will also serve as a warning signal to the attackers who had molested women earlier on gun point.
However, the revolver proposal has not been amended yet. It means that the bookings are going on but it hasn’t reached anyone so far. The first three customers whose request was booked for the Revolver’s launch ceremony were- Geeta Yadav, wife of Senior IAS Officer, Lucknow; Kalpana Pandey, housewife from Barabanki and Seema Kharbanda who hails from a political background in Delhi.
