After the Supreme Court temporarily banned the sale of large diesel cars in New Delhi to fight with toxic smog, the Automaker Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. is developing petrol engine for its existing vehicles.
Mahindra has only diesel SUVs, several work engines of more than 2000cc in capacity that cannot be sold in the capital until March 31.
Mahindra unveiled its first petrol engine car on Friday, which is developed at the cost of 5 billion for new compact vehicle KUV 100, that will be launched in January.
Mahindra had more than 1000 unsold cars worth is dealers in Delhi and surrounding regions, where the ban is applicable, Pawan Goenka said, and Mahindra’s executive dealer.
Goenka said, “Mahindra sells 3 electric cars in India and has 3 in the pipe line but would like higher government incentives so it can reduce the price of cars and spur demand.”
