At least 141 people died when a pedestrian suspension bridge collapsed in Gujarat. According to local officials, most of those who had died were women, children, and the elderly. The bridge in Morbi reopened just a week ago after repairs. The 230m bridge on the Machchu river was built during British rule in the 19th century. There was overcrowding on the bridge at the time as people celebrated Diwali. Reports said several hundred people were on the bridge when it collapsed. The bridge was packed with people swaying and gripping the netting on its sides. The authorities have promised a full investigation. Read the full report here.

Rishi Sunak created history by becoming the first Indian-origin British Prime Minister. He is the third leader to claim the position in less than two months. Sunak won the Conservative leadership contest on Monday and took over the top position from Liz Truss. His first job will be to fix a crisis facing the UK’s economy, which was aggravated by a chaotic financial plan from Truss.

India rejoices over T20 win over Pakistan

Virat Kohli single-handedly powered India to an epic four-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan with a magnificent 53-ball 82 not out in their big-ticket T20 World Cup game here on Sunday. Pakistan recovered from a wobbly start to post a fighting 159 for eight. India completed the chase in the last ball, with Kohli and Hardik Pandya (40) doing the bulk of the scoring after a horror start to their innings.

The two revived India with a 113-run stand for the fourth wicket after they were reeling at 31/4 at one stage. Sent in to bat, Pakistan was well served by Iftikhar Ahmed’s 34-ball 51 and Shan Masood’s unbeaten 52 off 42 balls after they lost their first two wickets with just 15 runs on the board in the fourth over.

Elon Musk becomes Twitter CEO, introduces major changes

Billionaire Elon Musk is now the new owner of Twitter and has fired the social media company’s Indian-origin CEO Parag Agrawal and top legal executive Vijaya Gadde, according to a media report. As reported by TOI, the dismissal of the two Indian-American principals was inevitable as soon as Musk completed his acquisition. Agrawal and Gadde, who clashed with Musk in the days leading to the takeover over purported fake accounts and censorship, were shown the door, and reportedly escorted out of the Twitter headquarters.

Well, now we have already entered November. And it will be interesting to watch whether the last 2 months of the year, will sail smoothly or it will turn our lives upside down.
