Globally, approximately 80 million units of blood are donated each year. Blood donation is a major concern to the society.Donationg blood can save a life. June 14 marks World Blood Donor Day. The motive behind celebrating this day is to tell people importance Blood Donation. Human’s each unit of blood donated is divided into four major components- platelets, plasma, red blood cells and white blood cells, which can be used to save three lives. There is a 15-20% shortfall between supply and demand for blood in India at any given time.

The World Donor Day is celebrated to create awareness about donating blood to others. But there is 25-30% shortfall between supply and demand for blood in India. It takes just few minutes to donate blood and with each unit of donated blood, you can save at least three lives.

According to reports, around 15 million units of donated blood has been kept in World Health Organization (WHO)’s. Donated blood can be lifesaving for the people, who have lost large amount of blood in any kind of injury or disease.

Every blood donor is a hero

There is no substitute of human blood. Blood carries all the nutrients and oxygen for all body. Blood fights with infections and heal the wounds of the body. Red Blood cells live about 120 days in our bodies. Giving blood will not decrease your strength and stamina. In fact, donating blood may reduce the risk of heart disease for men. You will not get AIDS or any other kind of blood disease by donating blood to anyone.

Anyone who is 17 –year- old and weighs about 50 Kg can donate blood in every 56 days. Blood centers often run for the blood group of ‘O’ and ‘B’ blood. Did you know in every three seconds someone needs blood? Donating blood may not only beneficial for those who receive the blood but it may also improve the health of the donor.

Blood donation helps you in burning your extra calories and reduces your cholesterol level. After donating blood, the count of blood cells decreases in our body and then immediately new cells are produced and the blood gets refreshed. So, this is the process of production of new blood cells and refreshes the system.
