Highlights: Shinzo Abe got re-elected as Japan’s Prime Minister
According to reports, Japan’s Shinzo Abe was re- elected as Prime Minister on Wednesday after his ruling bloc’s historic victory last month. Well, his re- election will not only ensure smooth continuity in India –Japan economic partnership that has been on an upswing, but it will also boost New Delhi’s Indo- Pacific outreach stretching Indo- Pacific outreach stretching from the Pacific region to coast of Eastern Africa.
Notably, Mr. Abe, 63 had taken over the office in year 2012, promising to reboot the stale economy and bolster defence. In the election of Oct 22, his liberal democratic –led coalition retained its two- third super majority in the lower house, reenergizing his push to revise the post- war, pacifist constitution.
On the other hand, Shinzo Abe has now developed warm relation with Donald Trump. As per reports, Mr. Trump to Mr. Abe that he is looking forward to visit Japan, that Japan and America are together and there is no room for doubt.
Benefit for India
His re- election would further help to strengthen the ties between the two Prime Minister who share a commendable chemistry with each other. According to Japanese officials, this victory will create more opportunities in India, while take forward the ongoing projects.
Interestingly, Abe’s victory will also observe Tokyo intensifying its joint projects with Delhi across South Asian states in India’s periphery – in Sri Lanka, Bhutan and all those which are in the region of Bay of Bengal.
Apart from it, Delhi also hopes that Japan will expand defence partnership with India as Tokyo is striving to modify its pacifist approach to international relations.
