India can give its second high-speed rail contract to Japan
According to reports, India is planning to explore a proposal to award its second high-speed train contract to Japan. Notably both the countries are expected to work on the same during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi starting from November 11.
If the countries will lock the decision on the same, then it would be Japan’s second suCH project in India. Notably it will be based on the Shinkansen bullet high-speed train technology and could connect MumbAI to Ahmedabad revealed people familar with the developments.
According to a report in a leading daily, Tokyo can fund this high-speed train contract just like the first one. Currently, Indian and Japenese officials are discussing the proposal, it also includes the route for second high speed rail link. It is expected that it would be built in Southern or central India.
Japan, which has decades of expertise in developing highspeed Rail is keen to expand its network in India. According to reports, developing and running highspeed train will be key to government’s plan.
Notably, the first link was signed last year in December. Bridges and tunnels, is expected to start in December for the link and network will get fully functional in 2023_2024.
Japan is also financially helping India in the form a loan of up to 81% of cost at a nominal interest. This loan has to be repaid in 50 years. And indeed thESE project will make Rail travel modern and its commute hassle free within your budget.
