IT Departments to send sms a move which will initiate more transparency
IT Departments to send sms a move which will initiate more transparency:- Income tax (IT) department will now send sms to all government and private sector employees on deposit of their TDS, this move has been initiated to bring in transparency.
Reason for initiating the service
There have been several incidents, where employers have deducted TDS from their employees’ salary but never deposit it with the IT department leaving them in a trouble. Around 2.5 crore salaried tax payers will enjoy the benefit from this new facility. These SMS will be send initially on quarterly basis and later on will be improved on to monthly basis.
In case of any problem, employees can contact their deductors for required correction. Similarly, SMS alerts will also be sent to deductors, who have either failed to deposit their taxes or have e-filed their TDS returns by the last date of submission.
The CBDT will very soon expand this facility to another 4.4 crore non-salaried taxpayers. All taxpayers who wish to receive such SMS alerts have to update their mobile numbers in their e-filing account.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the salaried class cannot afford to pay tax twice or indulge in litigations and hence they should be kept updated about their TDS deductions.
“Due to this tax payers will benefit if they receive information through the use of technology. So they can match their office salary slip and the SMS and at the end of the fiscal year he will be clear about any possible tax dues,” Mr Jaitley said.
He asked the CBDT to work forward in making the grievance redressal system for TDS problems online so that there is no interface between the tax payers and the income tax department. Mr Jaitley added that more tax payer services have to be provided in order to make the people tax complaint.
