The Western manufacturers are not willing to provide equipment for an Iranian Port that is being developed by India due to the fear that United States may re-impose sanction upon Tehran

India and Japan are developing Chabahar port

The ties between India and Japan are growing very strong in this project. Both the nations are moving forward for the development of this Port in Iran and Tokyo with an aim of improving Afghanistan’s access to the port. Afghanistan has already confirmed about Japan’s pledge to develop access for Chabahar.

Both the representatives of India and Japan discussed it last year to promote peace and prosperity around the globe through some works, especially in South Asia. Japan’s cooperation and its stand is important for India as it will help and ensure the time bound completion of its commitment to the development the Iranian Port.

A Counter Part from India To China

The economic corridor that is being built nearly about 75 km away from Pakistan known as China’s Gwadar port, is a part of the Pakistan Economic corridor Gwadar and it is a rapid developing project. The worth is around $46 million. India’s main concern point is Beijing getting the operational control of the port that is being located in Pakistan’s south western part known as Balochistan.

India’s take on the Project

India believes that a multi- cornered cooperation in terms of connectivity will surely provide Afghanistan an access to the markets and their contributions towards the development will definitely be increased through this. India’s vision is to build 2 terminals at Chabahar port abiding by the specifications signed by the Inter- Government Mou that is being signed with Iran. This port will also provide India an alternative access route in Afghanistan.
