World Wildlife Day 2023: Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation

World Wildlife Day 2023 is observed to raise awareness about wildlife. The wildlife includes plants and animals of the wild. This day was introduced in 2013.

World Wildlife Day is observed on March 3 every year to raise awareness about endangered animals and plants, implement ways to fight against wildlife crime and preserve wild flora & fauna. In the 68th session, the United States General Assembly (UNGA), in its resolution, decided to celebrate the Day. On December 20, 2013, the UN added World Wildlife Day to its calendar as an official event to be celebrated from March 3, 2014, onwards.

World Wildlife Day 2023: 3rd March marks the importance of Wildlife

World Wildlife day was announced due to different wildlife threats. Disturbance in wildlife had negative economic, environmental and social impacts worldwide. It does affect our ecosystem and it’s working.

The exploitation of wild animals is not only cruel, but it also threatens the delicate balance of ecosystems. Let’s protect these precious creatures by putting their needs above our greed.

World Wildlife Day 2023: Theme

The theme for 2023 is “Partnerships for wildlife conservation”. Let’s do our part in the conservation of nature as nature lovers so that future generations too can witness and enjoy the wildlife as we did. It will be marked to honour the people who are making a difference. The United Nations also shared, “Partnerships operate on a large scale or involve a few children or a school. For some, it could be organising a school sale to benefit a conservation group, for others, it could be posting photographs online to raise awareness of endangered species. All of them are equally valid.

Wildlife -The Balance of Nature

Both plants and animals in wildlife play a vital role in ecology. This day talks about the preservation of varied forms of flora and fauna and raises awareness about the benefits people reap due to a balanced ecology. Everything in the natural world is connected.

An ecosystem is a community of living and non-living which need to be balanced always for a good go-ahead. Every little animal within the ecosystem has a vital role in the well-being of the planet. If one species is rendered extinct due to some imbalance, it can have significant fatal effects throughout the rest of the chain. For example, even a small bee does, in fact, crucial work in the factory of nature.

Conclusion

Globally, the market value of marine and coastal resources and industries is estimated at US$3 trillion per year, about 5% of the global GDP. Over three billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods. From providing food and nourishment to materials for handicrafts and construction, marine wildlife has supported human civilization and development for decades. It has also enriched our lives culturally, spiritually, and recreationally in different ways.

The day is a great opportunity to raise awareness about the immense diversity of marine life, the crucial importance of marine species for human development, and how we can make sure it will continue to provide these services for future generations as well unless we take action to preserve it.

World Wildlife Day 2023 is a reminder that our planet is home to incredible species, each with its unique characteristics and importance in our ecosystems. It is also a time to acknowledge the critical role that wildlife plays in our lives, from providing essential ecosystem services like pollination and soil health to supporting local economies through ecotourism.
