Thiruvananthapuram tops the list of 30 smart phones
The government on Friday announced another list of 30 cities for development as smart cities taking the total cities picked to 90 so far. Interestingly, Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram has topped the list, and Chhattisgarh’s new capital Naya Raipur came second.
Notably, both the capitals of Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu and Srinagar made it to the list. Congress chief Sonia Gandhi did not find any place in the list. Even NCR city of Meerut failed to find any place.
Uttarakhand capital Dehradun this time made to the list. Mumbai did not participate in the competition. The names were announced by Union Urban development M Venkaiah Naidu.
Notably, the centre was expected to announce the names of 40 cities, but non –participation of Mumbai and Bengal brought the numbers down.
According to reports, Naidu said that 45 cities contested for 40 available smart city slots but only 30 were selected to ensure workable plans that match the aspirations of the citizens.
Interestingly, these cities have proposed to invest Rs 57,393 crore under respective smart city plans. With this, total number of such cities have increased to 90 with a total investment of Rs. 1, 91, 155 crore.
