Google Doodle is celebrating the 130th birth anniversary of World renowned famous Indian artist Jamini Roy. He was born on 11th April 1887 in Beliatore, Bankura district, West Bengal, India. He was very famous for his painting.

He was awarded with Padma Bhushan in 1955. On the occasion of his birthday Google dedicated doodle with an image inspired by his Black Horse painting. He was one of the most noteworthy and remarkable modernists in the world of Indian fine arts of the 20thcentury.

At the age of sixteen, he was sent to the Government College of Art, Kolkata for his studies. He was graduated in British academic style of painting from there. He received his Diploma in Fine Art in 1908. He was highly influenced by the Kalighat Pat (Kalighat Paintings), traditional Kanthas and Alpanas. He started his career as commissioned portrait painter.

He had three motives: he wanted to capture the simplicity in the life of the folk people; he wanted to aware of art to the wider section of people; and to give identity to Indian Art. In 1938, his paintings were put on the exhibition for the first time in the British Indian Street of Calcutta.

In 1946, his paintings had crossed the national boundary, it was exhibited in London followed by the New York in 1953.

Jamini had died in 1972 and regarded with Viceroy’s gold medal in an all India exhibition in 1934.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Ministry of Culture, declared his works among the ‘Nine Masters’ whose work considered being ‘art treasure.’

He wanted himself to be called a patua. He had one daughter and four sons. His paintings can be found in several museums and galleries across the globe.
