According to reports, Voters of Saudi Arabia elected 20 women for local government seats. It has happened for the very first time in country’s history.
The 20 female candidates represent just one percent of the roughly 2100 municipal council seats up for grabs, but still the condition is far better as earlier, women were completely shut out of the elections.
Although, women are still not allowed to drive and are governed by the guardianship laws that give men the final say over their life aspect such as marriage, travel and higher education.
Still it is a welcome change for the people of Saudi Arabia.
