FBI has reopened the investigation on email of Hillary
The Federal law enforcement officials on Friday said that the new emails, which were uncovered in the closed investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private mail server which was discovered after the FBI seized all electronic devices which belonged to Huma Abedin, a top aide to Clinton, and her estranged husband, Anthony Weiner.
The FBI is investigating all illicit text messages that Weiner sent to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina.
The bureau on Friday said that it had uncovered few new emails related to the Clinton case.
One of the federal official stated that they numbered in the thousands- potentially reigniting an issue that has weighed on the presidential campaign and offering a lifeline to Donald Trump less than two weeks before the elections.
In a letter the FBI director, James B. Comey said that the emails had surfaced in an unrelated case, and that they “appear to be pertinent to the investigation.”
Comey said that the FBI was taking steps to “determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.” He said he does not know how long it would take to review the emails, or whether the new information was significant.
The announcement comes as Trump has fallen behind Clinton in most national polls. Polls have been strengthening in recent days, amid the daily release of hacked Clinton campaign emails published by the WikiLeaks.
Trump seized on the FBI’s action on Friday at a rally in New Hampshire. To cheers of “lock her up” from his supporters, Trump said: “Clinton’s corruption is on a scale we have never seen before. We should not let her take her criminal scheme into the Oval Office.” After deriding the FBI for weeks as inept and corrupt, Trump went on to praise the law agency . “I have great respect for the FBI and the DOJ who are now willing to have the courage to correct the horrible mistake that they made,” Trump said. “This was a grave miscarriage of justice that the American people fully understand. It is everybody’s hope that it is about to be corrected.”
The Clinton campaign did not immediately respond to the development. As Clinton arrived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she waved at the press gathered on the tarmac but ignored all questions.
The Republican National Committee also cheered the new attention on Clinton’s emails as a crucial turning point in the race. “The FBI’s decision to reopen their criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton’s secret email server just 11 days prior the election shows how serious this discovery should be,” Reince Priebus, chairman of the RNC, said in a statement. “This development raises serious questions about what records may not have been turned over and why , and whether they show intent to violate any law.”
In September, Comey had announced that FBI had closed the investigation after determining that no one should face criminal charges.
