Sharmin Segal Faces Criticism and Disabled Instagram Comments Following “Expressionless” Acting Backlash

Since its release on May 1, “Heeramandi: “The Diamond Bazaar” is a latest cinematic masterpiece that is applauded for its great actors and complex story line which has the capacity to entertain audiences worldwide. Even as Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala and Sanjeeda Sheikh get their fair share of felicitations for their stellar performances, Sharmin Segal stands out for she has stirred a ruckus. Portraying Alamzeb in a series on Netflix, Segal Bhansali who is the niece of Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been on the receiving end of virulent criticism when some people even accused her role as being one of favouritism.

Regarding the continuous negativity that she faced with the comments on her IG photos, Segal had disabled comments on one of her recent uploads, a snap with Bhansali at the premiere of “Heeramandi “in Los Angeles. Criticism which emerged is focused on her absence of expression and the fact that she “had no expression same expression?” And one has casted her performance as “wooden” and “inexpressive,” while many other people suggested her scenes were a “yawn fest.”

On the flipside, Segal is far from being a newcomer to this kind of pressure from being a relative who is working in this field. Started in 2019 with “Malaal”, the movie operated under a Bhansali label, she had earlier pointed out nepotism and asserted that for every entertainer, a tough fight is needed to make it big. In spite of the flak, Segal has not given up on her acting career rather she has appeared in projects like “Atithi Bhooto Bhava” alongside Pratik Gandhi and Jackie Shroff. In fact she had the opportunity to act in the movies in 2022.

Regardless of the obstacles that are to come in the way of Segal as she rises to fame, her persistence and hard work for her craft remain unchanged, which only shows how serious she is about achieving her dream that is difficult to realize in the hard-to-penetrate industry of Bollywood.
