Ms. Marvel
The latest movie released on the OTT platform Netflix has created a lot of buzz because it not only shows the Asian characters but also the Asian culture. It also depicts the tragic Partition of India. Many Indian and Pakistani actors are part of this Hollywood’s first Muslim female superhero movie. It is currently streaming on Netflix and garnering the attention of the Indian subcontinent audience due to the characters being based on a Pakistani-based American girl who goes on to become a new superhero in the MCU series.
Slumdog Millionaire
It was a British drama film released in 2002. It is an adaptation of the novel Q & A penned by Indian author Vikas Swarup. It is a story of a young boy from the Juhu slums of Mumbai, starring British actor Dev Patel as protagonist Jamal with Indian actor Anil Kapoor and was directed by Danny Boyle. The boy is shown as a contestant on the famed Indian show Kaun Banega Crorepati, an Indian-Hindi version of ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’. Music was given by Indian legendary master musician A.R Rahman and this film went on to win 8 awards at the Oscars, the most number of awards by any film.
Life of Pi
It was a movie based on Yann Martel’s 2001 novel, Life of Pi. It was directed by Taiwanese filmmaker Ang Lee and written by American screenwriter David Magee. The role of the protagonist was played by Indian actor Suraj Sharma while actors Irrfan Khan, Tabu, and Adil Hussain portrayed the lead roles. Life of Pi was nominated for eleven Academy Awards and won four in 2012. It also won Golden Globe Awards for the Best Original Score.

Lion
Based on the 2013 non-fiction book, A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley, director Garth Davis made an Australian biographical movie drama. It stars Dev Patel, Sunny Pawar, Rooney Mara, David Wenham, Hollywood star actress Nicole Kidman and noted Indian actors like Deepti Naval, Tannishtha Chatterjee, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It tells the true story of how a fostered boy sets out to find his family in India after 25 years of separation from his family. It is a joint production between Australia and the United Kingdom. This film won two BAFTA Awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The Name Sake
An English language drama movie based on the novel ‘The Namesake’ by novelist Jhumpa Lahiri and directed by Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair. The movie stars actors Tabu, Irrfan Khan, Kal Penn, and Sahira Nair. This was a critically acclaimed movie, produced collectively by Indian, American, and Japanese studios.
