Deepika Padukone has given audition at Dhobi Ghat
Back in 2013, Majid Majidi announced that his next venture will be set in India. After much delay, the production team of his new movie titled ‘Floating Gardens,’ along with the Iranian filmmaker has finalised the location as Jaipur. Upon this we hear that Deepika Padukone met the film’s production unit soon after she arrived from The Netherlands after the European Music Awards, and an elaborate look test was done at a Dhobi Ghat.
Deepika’s to portray the role of a Ragpicker?
Against the rumors which stated that the look test was for a rag picker’s part in the film, an insider tells us that it is a well fleshed out character who has a mild beginning in life.
“But the role is definitely not that of a rag picker. Deepika Padukone is one of the five actress to have been shortlisted.
Majidi’s school of movies is not so much about an actress’ star power as much as it is about her fitting in the role.
Having said that, he added that two other leading ladies will also be auditioning for the part. There is a famous Bollywood actress, who is competing neck to neck with Deepika Padukone.
However, the details of other actresses in the race are between the producers and Majidi.”
Majidi’s team is also looking forward at casting a known male face, but not precisely ‘a star’.
“Actors, who were approached and have also auditioned for the role, were made to sign a non-disclosure agreement. They cannot talk about it till the signing of the movie,” a source close reveals.
This time, before Majidi leaves India, the film’s casting will be finalised. “They hope to start the shooting of the movie by the end of January 2017. The actors will have to block their dates for several months together.”
The bilingual film [Hindi and English], will later be dubbed in Farsi, and will be shot across Benaras, Jaipur, Nainital, Delhi, Mumbai and Shimla.
Although the Iranian film will have an all-Indian crew, reports suggest that many unit members have dropped the project already, leading to a delay in the project.
A source close to the production team says, “The film has taken four long years to kick-start. We hope the film will finally go on floors in January 2017.”
