A new ground-breaking defence deal is potentially in the offiing. Negotiations are currently underway between India and the French Aviation giant Dassault to indigenously make the Rafale fighter jet along with a affordable business jet in India.
This is happening as a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign.
It may be noted here, that fearing scandals, all major defence deals were on a virtual hold in the previous Congress led regime over a decade, which severely hampered India’s defence capability. Redressal of this issue was a top priority for the current Government, which has been signing defence deals across the board to bolster the nation’s defences.
Hailed as the largest ever Indian defence deal, it includes manufacture of 36 Rafale fighter jets in India, and may include Indian private players like Reliance Defence Systems, Bharat Electronics and Samtel.
This deal, which will bring in investments of around $ 4.5 Billion, will also help upgrade technology for India’s indigenous Tejas fighter jet.
