Hindi is one common thread that ties approximately 258 million people together. To celebrate this connectedness and respect for the language, Hindi Divas is celebrated annually on 14 September in Hindi speaking regions of India.
This day is also celebrated to remind Hindi speaking people of their shared history and roots. This day serves to promote and propagate the 4th most- spoken language in the world.
The day is celebrated in most government schools, offices, firms and other institutions. Competitions and feasts are a major part of this day.Why this day in particular?
This day is celebrated as Hindi Divas because the Constituent Assembly of India had adopted Hindi written in Devanagari script as the official language of the Republic of India in the year 1949.
Currently, both Hindi and English are used as the official language in the Union Government level.
On this day, let us promise to try and spread the language as much as possible.
