The annual Char Dham Yatra in the hill state of Uttarakhand begins today on the auspicious festival of ‘Akshaya Tritiya.’ This will also mark the reopening of the Yamunotri and Gangotri shrines in the Garhwal Himalayas.
The temple will reopen today for the pilgrims remaining closed for six months during the winters, on the other hand Badrinath Temple in the Chamoli district will reopen on May 11.
As the Yatra will mark the involvement of several people, security has been tightened and the health department is working to provide health care facilities in the Yatra route.
Char Dham Yatra Temples
After the floods in the state in 2013, the Char Dham Yatra has suffered a major jolt.
However the massive witness of the pilgrims last year, the tourism department is hoping an increase in number.
The shrines remain close for the devotees in winter season every year, as the region at higher altitude experiences extreme cold conditions and it gets reopen during the summers.
