Chandigarh MC Polls Results: BJP wins 20 seats
The results of Chandigarh MC Polls were announced on Monday and interestingly so far the Bhartiya Janata Party is leading with 20 seats. Chandigarh municipal corporation elections were held on December 18th. Notably, Congress Party has won four seats, while Akali and Independent candidate have won one seat each.
Notably, in the outgoing house, the BJP-Akali Dal holds 12 seats, the congress 11 and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj party two.
Today’s win is a big boost for the ruling combine, which is currently battling an anti- incumbency factor in the assembly elections after having ruled for 10 straight years. This victory is special in many aspects as it is another thumbs up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ban on 500 and 1,000 rupee notes aims at eliminating corruption.
Opposition has declared a war against the government over demonetization. It had alleged government that the massive cash crunch has punished poor rather than the corrupt.
According to reports, Kirron Kher, BJP MP from Chandigarh has said “Demonetization has not affected the polls there were problems but our people very understanding.”
BJP is continuously urging people to move towards the cashless economy and the party has assured that this short- term inconvenience will lead to a long –term gain.
Recently, BJP made major gains in civic elections in Gujarat and Maharashtra and the party credited both the successes to PM Modi’s battle against corruption with notes ban.
BJP President, Amit Shah has called this victory, Vote for Note Ban. With this victory opposition has got the clear message that people are supporting Narendra Modi and they want that corrupt people should be punished.
Though people of India gave mixed response to note ban, but now this victory has proved that Indians are supporting Note Ban.
