The government approved of providing subsidized helicopter services in ten sectors of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
The emergency and common passenger services will be provided at a subsidized rate along with a priority basis, according to the reports of the Home Ministry.
All Income tax payers, government officers on tours and VIPs are exempted from these rates. The access for these people will purely be on the basis of the availability of seats.
Also, the government will subsidize only the cost towards the actual number of qualifying passengers using the helicopter services and no subsidy will be given on the vacant seats.
The critical sectors in the Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh will be finalized by the respective state governments.
The number of flying hours will be based on the justifiable needs and will be determined after the consultation with the Home Ministry. The time difference between the road and the air travel will be a major factor which will be considered while deciding the air connectivity.
The operation in the states will continue till March, 2017 and its operators will be selected by an open tender process.
