The Cauvery Supervisory Committee, which is headed by the Union Water Resources Secretary Shashi Shekhar, will be meeting today in New Delhi, in order to decide on the quantum of Cauvery river water to be released in Tamil Nadu and other states.
According to sources, the Committee would be strictly adhere to the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal while further deciding on the quantum of the water to be released in Tamil Nadu and other states as per directed by the Supreme Court.
Cauvery Supervisory Committee will meet in Delhi today
Chief Secretaries of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Puducherry besides the officials of Central Water Commission will be attending the meeting.
In an interim order that came on September 5, the apex Court had asked Karnataka to further release 15,000 cusecs of the Cauvery water daily for next 10 days in Tamil Nadu. This had also led to protests in parts of Karnataka.
The apex Court will be next hearing the matter on September 16.
