Birthday special: Uncut Vinod Khanna:- Born on October 6, 1946 in Peshawar, Vinod Khanna has turned 70 today. With all ups and downs, his journey has been a roller coaster ride.
Vinod Khanna entered Bollywood in 1968 with Suniel Dutt’s Man Ka Meet as a villain, for which he got rave reviews, and signed 15 new films within a week.
Later on, he graduated and grabbed the role of a hero, and formed a successful pair with superstar Amitabh Bachchan in films such as Amar, Akbar and Anthony and Parvarish.
Good Time of his life
The basic middle class man’s life took a huge turn, when Khanna entered Bollywood. He bought his first car with his own money- Volkswagon Beetle, and then there was a flock of cars. As Khanna says “I believe in having the best of everything be it cars, apartments or food.”
And then happened his ‘MARRIAGE’- he married Geetanjali (his first wife) in 1971 whom he met in his college. However, marriage with Geetanjali could not last long and they parted ways in 1985. Khanna got married for the second time in 1990 and this time it was Kavita Daftary, whom he met during his birthday celebrations.
Vinod Khanna was at a time given the tag of “Sexy Sanyasi.” Khanna had money, fame, power and wanted to have something more so he started visiting Osho’s ashram in Pune. He visited the ashram every weekend. After then, he soon announced his retirement from the films leaving everyone shocked.
He stayed with Osho in Rajneeshpuram, the city he built in America. Osho was known as the sex guru. Khanna spent four long years in Rajneeshpuram. Back home, his wife (Geetanjali) could not take any longer for people asked his children about his whereabouts and said that your father ran away with his guru, and both Geetanjali and Vinod settled for the divorce.
Later on, he returned home and re-entered Bollywood.
Abhineta to Neta
After entertaining people as an actor Khanna went on to enter politics and joined BJP.
He was informed that he will be representing the party from Gurdaspur. “It was the first time I had heard the name Gurdaspur,” he said.
But worked with all his heart and soul for the constituency, and today is the sitting MP from Gurdaspur.
