Belt and Road initiatives
Noting that China is trying hard for its ‘two centenary goals’ and Bangladesh is chasing its ‘Sonar Bangla’ dream, Xi added that China-proposed Belt and Road Initiatives that can dovetail with Bangladesh’s cooperation strategies in the world.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated that the traditional friendship between the two countries enjoys a deep and rooted public support in Bangladesh.
“Bangladesh praises China’s economic achievement, and is ready to strengthen its cooperation with China,” Hasina added.
She also said that Bangladesh is very much willing to actively work with China within the framework of Belt and Road Initiative and support the building of an economic corridor linking countries like Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar.
The Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by Xi in 2013, comprises of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. It is aimed at the building of a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along with the old trade routes.
After their meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of the string of cooperation documents covering various areas like joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative, information and telecommunication, energy and power, diplomatic affairs, etc.
Xi arrived in Dhaka for his state visit, earlier in the day, the first by a Chinese head of state to this South Asian nation in the past 30 years.
Bangladesh is the second phase of Xi’s visit after Cambodia. He will also be traveling to Goa for an emerging-market bloc summit of BRICS, which groups Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
