On International Women’s Day (8th March 2014), ARMMAN, a non-profit organization committed to improving the well-being of pregnant mothers, newborns and children, is organising an entertainment based awareness event in association with the all-girls band, INDIVA.
The event is a celebration of the importance of ‘access to preventive care information’ in empowering pregnant women and new mothers to make better choices for themselves and their children. Dr. Aparna Hegde, Founder, Chairperson & Managing Trustee of ARMMAN said, “At ARMMAN, we believe that every woman matters. Access to timely information that is crucial to ensure good health for herself and her child is her right. Reaching out to the women directly with preventive care information when she needs it can be transformational. It can awaken her to her rights: her right to health care access, her right to be given equal importance at home and her right to a healthy life for herself and her child.”
INDIVA, which includes four extremely talented women, Merlin D’souza, Hamsika Iyer, Vivienne Pocha and Shruti Bhave, will perform a mix of Hindustani, Jazz, Classical and World Music to support the cause. INDIVA expressed their views and said, “We believe in the dignity of womanhood who play many roles, of a Daughter, a Mother, a Provider, and more! It feels good to be a woman and we need to celebrate each day for womanhood with grace and courage. Let her enigma continue to embody her beauty!”
The objective behind organising this event is also to inform people about ‘mMitra voice call service’, a free mobile – based health advisory available in the local dialect, which will provide culturally appropriate and comprehensive information on preventive care and simple interventions during emergencies, with the view to reduce maternal and child mortality and morbidity. Automated voice calls will be made weekly or twice a week in the local dialect directly to the phones of the enrolled women through pregnancy and infancy in their chosen timeslot, thus, guiding the women gently like a loyal friend and companion. These preventive care voice calls have been prepared by senior gynaecologists, paediatricians, and FOGSI and then converted into local languages.
The event will be a platform for all women to come together to support the cause. It will also see the eminent women personalities highlighting the importance of individual contributions in helping all underprivileged women achieve their right to information.
The event will be organised at IES Auditorium, Manikrao Vidyalay, Bandra Reclamation Opposite Lilavati Hospital, Bandra (W), from 7 PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday, 8thMarch 2014. The tickets are priced at Rs. 500/-, Rs. 750/- & Rs. 1000/- and available on bookmyshow.com.
