President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 142nd birth anniversary. Notably, President Kovind remembered Sardar Patel as “India’s Man of Iron, of integrity and of integration” in the tweet he posted after paying floral tribute at Patel Chowk.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Sadar Vallabhbhai was born on October 31st October 1875 in Nadiad, a small village in Gujarat. He was the first Deputy Prime Minister of India. He died on December 15, 1950.

Apart from President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also paid floral tribute to Sadar Vallabhbahi on his 142nd Birthday.

Iron Man of India

Here are few things you need to about Sardar Vallabhbai Patel:

  • He became the first Deputy Prime Minister of India and was known as the Iron Man of India
  • He was conferred with the highest civilian honour , Bharat Ratna, in 1991 for his services to nation
  • He went to pursue degree in Law and travelled England in 1910. He completed his law degree in year 1913 from Inns of Court and back to India to start his Law practice in Godhra, Gujarat. He got many offers from British government but he refused it all.
  • He was deeply influenced by Gandhji’s ideologies.
  • Initially, he wasn’t interested in Politics but after meeting Mahatma Gandhi he decided to join politics
  • He worked extensively against untouchability, alcohol consumption, and caste discrimination in Gujarat and outside Gujarat.
  • When Patel joined Gandhi’S Non – Cooperation movement he travelled around West India to recruit 3,000 members. He went on to collect more than Rs. 1.5 million for the party fund.
