Relive the magic of Yuvi’s six sixes
It was 19th September 2007 and it was the 21st match of the ICC World Twenty20 series which held at Kingsmead. The match is being played between England and India.
Through the hard work of Gautam Gambhir, Virendra Sehwag, and Yuvraj Singh, India managed to set a target of 218 runs.
But, sadly for England, they could not achieve the target and India ended up winning the match by 18 runs. India also went on to win the series by defeating Pakistan in the final.
Victory for the Indian cricket team was surely a celebratory point, but what deserved more celebration was what Yuvraj Singh had accomplished on the field. He did something that India has still not forgotten. He hit six sixes in one over!
Live the magic of his six sixes here:
It was an over full of sixes. It was the fourth time in the history of cricket that a batsman hit six off each ball in an over. It is 2016 and we still cannot stop gushing over the fact that nine years ago, on this exact same date Yuvi made history.
The left-handed batsman and an all-rounder had given his test debut in 2003 and there has been no looking back since then.
The cricketer has also received the Arjuna Award India’s second highest sporting award, in the year 2012 and the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour in the year 2014.
Yuvi has been a part of various Indian Premier League (IPL) teams- Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors, Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad. In 2016, his team (Sunrisers Hyderabad) won the IPL.
The cricketer is a true hero not only in the field but also off-field. He not only battled cancer and survived it, he is also the living example of how being determined, focused and giving all your energy can help to achieve something you want.
