Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has announced that 200 more stations will soon get Wi-Fi facility
According to reports, 200 more stations will soon get Wi-Fi facility . Notably,100 railway stations had been fitted with Wi-Fi in 2016 and now Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is aiming to expand this facility to 200 more stations.
As a part of its programme to upgrade facilities for rail users, Suresh Prabhu has announced that 200 stations will be provided with Wi-Fi in 2017.
While addressing a function recently in Kerala, he dedicated six wi-fi facilities to rail users at Kannur, Ernakulam and Kollam and said that his main aim in 2017 is to expand wi-fi services.
“More trains will also would be provided with Wi-Fi next year,” he said.
He further added, “The objective is to have Wi-Fi facility in all railway stations in small cities and towns.”
He also informed that steps are taken to construct escalators in stations.
Suresh Prabhu welcomed the Kerala government’s decision to sign a joint venture with railways for development projects in the state. He has assured that as partners, the railways would developed in the state.
Notably, the minister admitted that there was a lack of railway investment in Kerala and said that investment in railway by Kerala can bring development to its optimum level in the state.
Notably, the resources spent under the JV would be in addition to funds earmarked in the railway budget, he added.
Referring to remittances to the state from Non-Resident Keralites, he has even asked them that they could also invest in railway projects.
The Railways was also looking out for resources other than its normal revenue.
